·         What is this test used for?

o   This test is used when you need to officially verify your family members to help them apply for a visa and, ultimately, citizen status. The findings will be forwarded to immigration officials. It is critical that you select a laboratory that is certified by the American Association of Blood Banks. All components of the immigration testing procedure, such as appointment scheduling, should be handled by the AABB accredited laboratory rather than a third party.

·         How is the sample for the test collected?

o   Usually, the sample is collected by rubbing the inner side of your check or buccal cavity using a cotton swab. This sample is collected under the supervision of an official appointed by the authorities and then sent for test.

·         What precautions are needed to be followed?

o   As the usual sampling uses buccal swabs it is necessary that the person who is giving the sample avoids eating, drinking, or smoking for at least 1-2 hours prior to testing. The mouth of the applicant should be rinsed three times with warm water. In the case of infants, wait 2 hours after breastfeeding or have them drink water at room temperature from a bottle.
